Relationships

I’ve been reading through the latest draft of the Australian Arts Curriculum: Dance. The elements of dance are listed as SPACE, TIME, DYNAMICS and RELATIONSHIPS.

Relationships in dance exist in both space and time. They include the relationships of a dancer’s body parts; and how a dancer relates to other dancers, objects and the performance space.

The following video caught my eye for its contribution to learning and teaching about relationships in dance. The thematic content is about pack mentality vs individualism, which lends itself to interesting choreography for solos, duos and the group. It begs for some analysis, which we will do as part of a future lesson plan.

The video is 14+ minutes long but has a narrative and a number of sections. It’s a work that is appropriate for viewing by both primary and secondary dance students.
